Coach Waverly Tillar, ECSU's head football coach, and Coach Michael Costa, St. Augustine's University head football coach, guaranteed fans they would see a football game worthy of the term "classic." Both are Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association teams. Also attending were ECSU's athletic director, Mr. Thurlis Little, and St. Augustine's University's athletic director, Mr. George Williams.

The panel discussion was led by City of Rocky Mount Mayor David Combs. The panel also included Dr. Claudie Mackey, co-founder of the DEVFC and a member of its steering committee; Robbie Davis, chairman of the Nash County Tourism Development Authority; ECSU Chancellor Willie J. Gilchrist; Thurlis Little co- chairperson of the DEVFC Steering Committee and Julia Congleton-Bryant, chairperson of the DEVFC Steering Committee.

The panelists discussed the September 29 football game that will be held at 4 p.m. at the Rocky Mount Sports Complex, 600 Independence Drive in Rocky Mount, N.C. and the series of events held in conjunction with the football game.

Congleton-Bryant said she looks forward to the 15th annual Down East Viking Football Classic which has been held each year for the delight of fans of all ages.

"I applaud the steering committee for their outstanding commitment. The diligence they exhibit as a steering committee epitomizes excellence. This committee guarantees that each year the DEVFC will have its own drama and a magical series of events for fans of all ages. It includes youth outreach, educational enhancement and economic development which collectively creates a successful series of events we can all be proud of."
