Of the 133 members inducted into the Iota Nu Chapter of Sigma Tau Delta since 2005, approximately 30 students, faculty and staff are active members on campus. Sigma Tau Delta is an International English Honor Society with more than 800 chapters in the United States, Europe, the Middle East and the Caribbean. A member of the Association of College Honor Societies, the organization was founded in1924 at Dakota Wesleyan University. The society strives to confer distinction for high achievement in English language and literature in undergraduate, graduate, and professional studies; provide, through its local chapters, cultural stimulation on college campuses and promote interest in literature and the English language in surrounding communities; foster all aspects of the discipline of English, including literature, language and writing; promote exemplary character and good fellowship among its members; exhibit high standards of academic excellence; and serve society by fostering literacy. The organization's faculty advisor at ECSU is Mrs. Jeanette W. Morris. The event speaker was Mr. Pernell Bartlett, an Honorary Member of Sigma Tau Delta and the ECSU Staff Senate Chair. ###
