Second Saturday Science Continues at Port DiscoverLuAnne Pendergraft
November 01, 2006 Port Discover continues its monthly Second Saturday Science program on November 11 with Dinosaur Discovery. Naturalists from the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences will lead an exploration into the awe-inspiring world of dinosaurs. Children will learn about the habits of dinosaurs while comparing live animals to these prehistoric wonders. Some of the live animals featured during Dinosaur Discover could be a small alligator, Madagascar hissing cockroaches, a turtle, and a lizard or ball python. The program begins at 1 p.m. and is geared to elementary aged children. The program is free, however due to limited space, reservations are required. Second Saturday Science will continue through May on every second Saturday of the month. Second Saturday Science is made possible by a grant from the North Albemarle Community Foundation. Port Discover is located at 613 E. Main Street, Elizabeth City, and is open to the public Tuesday - Saturday, 1- 5 p.m. General admission is free, however, donations are gladly accepted. Port Discover is a community-based non-profit organization established to enhance the public's understanding and enjoyment of science through engaging programs, activities and exhibits. Elizabeth City State University, along with the Elizabeth City Area Chamber of Commerce initiated the project that has attracted broad community support including the Elizabeth City Morning Rotary Club, College of the Albemarle, Albemarle Hospital, Museum of the Albemarle, Elizabeth City Convention and Visitors Bureau, and the Elizabeth City-Pasquotank Public Schools.
