Research Week is February 12 - 16 at ECSU

The School of Mathematics, Science and Technology at Elizabeth City State University will host Research Week, February 12 - 16, in the Ridley Student Center. Activities for the week include faculty research reports, colloquium presentations by area researchers and scientists, and more. Please refer to the schedule below for additional information: February 12, 3 p.m. - 5:30 p.m., student and faculty research posters will be displayed in room #216 of the Ridley Student Center. February 13, 3 p.m. - 5 p.m., presentations by the faculty highlighting major African American contributors in mathematics, science and technology in the auditorium of the Ridley Student Center. Dr. Gary Harmon, chairperson of the Biology Department, presides. February 14, 3:30 p.m. - 5 p.m., This lecture by Dr. Bernard Harris, a NASA astronaut and the first African-American to walk in space, has been cancelled. Harris flew as a mission specialist on STS-55 and as Payload Commander on STS-63. It was during this flight that Harris performed his historic spacewalk. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology, a Master of Medical Science, an MBA and a Doctorate of Medicine. He completed a residency in Internal Medicine at the Mayo Clinic, a National Research Council Fellowship in Endocrinology at the NASA Ames Research Center and trained as a Flight Surgeon at the Aerospace School of Medicine, Brooks Air Force Base. Harris holds numerous faculty appointments and is the author and co-author of several scientific publications. February 15, 2 p.m., a student science bowl in room #216 of the Ridley Student Center featuring teams of students from the School of Mathematics, Science and Technology competing for prizes and trophies. February 15, 11 a.m. - 4 p.m., a research fair in room #216 of the Ridley Student Center. Participants include representatives from university, industry and government research organizations. They will highlight student internship opportunities with federal agencies, graduate and professional schools and opportunities for faculty and student research collaborations. February 16, 11 a.m. - 1 p.m., a poster display in room #216 of the Ridley Student Center by ECSU students in the School of Mathematics, Science and Technology.
