ecsus-125th-anniversary Elizabeth City State University and the Museum of the Albemarle are announcing a new exhibit at the museum that will celebrate ECSU's 125th anniversary highlighting a collection of artifacts, photographs, and memorabilia.

Chancellor Stacey Franklin Jones said she is excited about this new partnership with the Museum of the Albemarle.

"What better way to forge ECSU's future than to celebrate its rich, 125-year history. Through the partnership with the Museum of the Albemarle, we look forward to sharing our story with the citizens of northeastern North Carolina," Jones said.

Bill McCrea, director of the regional museum, will chair the new exhibit committee of university faculty, staff, alumni and area citizens involved in the selection of the memorabilia:

Faculty: Dr. Rebecca Seaman,
MOA staff: Charlotte Patterson, Jaimie McCargo and Wanda Lassiter,
Alumni/Community: Elouise White and Joyce Long
ECSU staff: Amy Alcocer

According to McCrea, regional museums are powerful vehicles for celebrating the deep and broad history of North Carolina.

"The Museum of the Albemarle is delighted to be teaming with ECSU in developing an exhibit about the university's 125 year history. Through community engagement, we hope to find artifacts and stories that will tell the rich history of the ECSU, its importance to the area, and its lasting legacy," McCrea said.

The committee began meeting in January and will continue until the launch of the exhibit. When the university celebrates its 125th anniversary in March of 2016, visitors will have access to a host of events on campus as well as the Museum of the Albemarle exhibit.
