ECSU announces new administrators

August 22, 2006 Elizabeth City State University announces the following administrative appointments: DIVISION OF ACADEMIC AFFAIRS
Provost & Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs
Dr. Ronald H. Blackmon has been named provost. He continues to serve as vice chancellor for Academic Affairs. As such, he is the highest ranking senior administrator reporting to the chancellor. Dr. Blackmon became vice chancellor in July 2005. Prior to that, he served as dean of the School of Mathematics, Science & Technology. Overall, Dr. Blackmon has served at ECSU since 1989, beginning as a faculty member and later chairperson of the Biology department. Dr. Blackmon earned a B.S. in Biology from Delaware State University, and a M.S. in Zoology and Ph.D. in Cell Biology from Howard University. Associate Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs
Dr. W. Franklin Evans has been appointed the associate vice chancellor for Academic Affairs. He previously served as academic dean at J. F. Drake State Technical College in Alabama. Dr. Evans has earned two bachelor's degrees from the University of Georgia and three degrees-a master's, education specialist, and Ph.D.-from Georgia State University. Dr. Jennifer Keane-Dawes has been appointed dean of the School of Arts & Humanities after serving as interim since 2004. Prior to returning to ECSU in 2004, Dr. Keane-Dawes previously served as director of Graduate Studies at Norfolk State University. From 1998-2001, she worked at ECSU as an associate professor in the Department of Language, Literature and Communication. Dr. Keane-Dawes has earned a bachelor's degree at the University of the West Indies, and a master's and Ph.D. at Howard University. Dean of School of Education & Psychology
Dr. Sylvia A. Mason has been appointed dean of the School of Education & Psychology. She previously served as director of Curriculum and Instruction and Title I Director at the NC Department of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency. Dr. Mason has also held several faculty and administrative appointments at higher education institutions, including Shaw University, North Carolina Central University and St. Augustine's College. She has earned a bachelor's degree from Appalachian State University, a master's degree from North Carolina Central University, and an Ed.D. from UNC-Chapel Hill. Dr. Cynthia A. Warrick has been appointed dean of the School of Mathematics, Science & Technology. She previously served as associate professor and director of the Institute of Public Health in the College of Pharmacy & Pharmaceutical Sciences at Florida A&M University. Dr. Warrick has also had several faculty and administrative appointments, including serving at the University of Texas, Texas Southern University, Howard University, and George Mason University, and as the Health Disparities Scholar at Texas Institute for Health Policy Research in Austin. Dr. Warrick has earned a bachelor's degree in pharmacy at Howard University, a master's degree from the Georgia Institute of Technology, and a Ph.D. from George Mason University. Mr. Derrick L. Wilkins has been appointed chief information officer (CIO), a senior administrative position, after serving as interim CIO for approximately one year. Prior to the interim CIO post, Mr. Wilkins served as the Director of Academic Computing and End User Support at ECSU since 1993. Mr. Wilkins, an ECSU alumnus, class of 1988, has earned a master's degree from Clark Atlanta University in 1990. Director of Financial Aid
Mr. Kenneth Bruce Wilson has been appointed director of Financial Aid. He previously served in this same capacity at Albany Technical College in Georgia. Mr. Wilson has also served as a systems analyst and financial aid counselor at Savannah State University where he earned two bachelor's degrees, one in computer science and technology and the other in mathematics. Mr. Charles A. Amerson has been appointed director of Union and Student Life. Prior to joining ECSU, he served as associate director of the Memorial Student Union for Operations at North Carolina A&T State University. He has also held several other administrative positions in student affairs at higher education institutions, including Methodist College, UNC-Charlotte, UNC-Greensboro, Virginia Tech, and University of Hartford. Mr. Amerson has earned both a bachelor's and master's degree from the University of Hartford.
